Ezzat Haider

President and Executive Director

My name is Ezzat Khudhur Haider Khider Haider. I was born and grew up in Iraq. I came to the U.S. on May 12th, 2014. I have a bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language from the University of Duhok-Iraq. After being in the U.S., I decided to complete my education. I later attended the Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) with a double major in communication and international studies and graduated with two bachelor's degrees. I also minored in leadership. Later I attended North Dakota State University (NDSU) for a master's degree in communication studies. While attempting to complete my education, I also worked to feed my family. I started to work as an interpreter and later as a coordinator with Metro Interpreter in Fargo, North Dakota. A year later, I started to work as an interpreter with Family Health Care. After graduating from MSUM in 2017, I started to work as a community coordinator with the New American Consortium for their community education classes and initiatives. While attending NDSU for my master's degree, I also got an opportunity with their assistantship program to work as a part-time instructor teaching college student from August 2019 to May 2022.

In July 2022, we decided to move to Lincoln, Nebraska, and right away, I got a job with Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska as the business services and outreach coordinator. Today, I am an adjunct instructor teaching at Southeast Community College. Since I speak three languages, I do some interpreting and translation in-person and virtually (online) with some agencies. While doing these works, I founded a nonprofit organization called Chira Global Development Organization (CHIRA) (CGDO).

Since 2016, I have dedicated time, work, and efforts to make Chira Global Development Organization a real opportunity that would bring an immigrant way and point of view in the field of organization in how to better advocate for a more inclusive community, equity, and opportunities for all. In the past, CGDO was able to add a tangible community touch in the Fargo-Moorhead Area (North Dakota and Minnesota) to serve immigrants and refugees better and, specifically, the Middle Eastern community. Today, CHIRA is legally in Nebraska, and we are putting time and effort into serving Nebraskans as we served people from North Dakota and Minnesota with our programs and initiatives. This consistent and persistent community work allowed me to work around other community initiatives and benefits.

I was honored to work with the City of Moorhead on their housing and planning committee for over a year before deciding to move to Nebraska. On those commissions, i would always stand for the view of an immigrant to express concerns and questions to support my teams better. Because of these community works and efforts, I was honored to receive the City of Moorhead/Human Rights Commission human rights award for 2018. All these efforts, education, life experiences, and skills always motivate me to look forward to adopting more community responsibilities, leadership, and opportunities to represent the voices left behind. I am a community-dedicated person with a slogan of diversity, inclusion, equity, and opportunity as the only way and solution toward supporting more immigrants and refugees and building a more prosperous large community.
